Dane Christenson
Software Developer
I am currently a programmer analyst for the Edmonton Public School Board. My primary project is building a large scale application to serve students and teachers across one of the largest school districts in Canada. We have been upgrading to more modern interfaces using Cold Fusion, with HTML, CSS, Javascript and SQL.
I graduated from NAIT in 2018 in the Computer Software Development stream of Digital Media and I.T. I took full time courses and managed to maintain a 4.0 GPA while working full time and raising 2 kids.
I've found many of the skills of carpentry are applicable to software development. I'm used to collaborating with clients, customers, coworkers and project management. I focus on making things not only look beautiful, but on making them solid underneath, while maintaining feasibility. I am used to working in small teams and interacting with larger projects as a whole to build something larger. I've given progress updates to clients, and explained the ins and outs of technical requirements and why things happen a certain way to clients. I've gathered customer requirements and implemented them to ensure a product that suites our client's needs. I've also mentored and managed coworkers under me to improve the development process.
Before going to NAIT for DMIT I earned my journeyman ticket in carpentry, prior to that I received a diploma in Christian leadership. I believe learning is an ongoing process. I love to apply myself to new processes and problems. I am more than aware that I don't know it all and love the journey and exploration of finding a better way. Work has taught me to look for a better way, but also how to get things done and how to balance that line. I love learning and teaching myself and creating new things. Part of my love of software is creating something from nothing.
